OK, there are issues, some of the hotel's making (fixtures such as a cracked sink and a loose electrical socket) and some not (a thoughtful previous guest had put a teabag in the kettle!), but this is a charming, unusual, and surprisingly peaceful hotel. You've got to remember that you're staying in a converted railway carriage, not a stately home. |

Unusual experience, firstly it is not clear from the outside that this is a hotel as it only says Restraunt on the front of the building. The room was not very clean, dusty etc and the lighting was very poor, this was ceratinly not worth £80 and whilst staying on an old fashioned train is an interesting idea the rooms are in URGENT need of refurbishment. The staff were very friendly and helpful however, the food was very average and the starter Pate was crumbling at the knife and so my partner did not eat it (i suspect it was way out of date). Overall we stayed here because we could not get anywhere else and we are due to go back to York early January with family, however we will not be staying here. |

It's a friendly and pleasant place to stay, the staff are excellent and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. For train spotters it's a must. Although it's a little way out of York it's worth the drive. |
