Images on LateRooms suggest The Grange is a remote building in the countryside, however in reality it is tucked away down a long drive and not as remote as it seems. The building itself is beautiful - certainly a stunning family home.
The service and welcoming were excellent, as was the cleanliness and size of the room (the 4 poster room and en-suite were about the size of my house!). The breakfast was really good - fresh home-cooked food can't be beaten.
The only criticism I have is that the 4 poster room (room 7) is directly above the kitchen, and as this is a family home, there was considerable noise late on the Saturday evening (when we were trying to have an early night) and than at stupid o'clock early Sunday too (3am). As you pay more for this room, the positioning seems a bit strange, so wouldn't recommend choosing this option if you want to guarantee sleep...
Good point to note is that all the taxis we took (and we took a few to avoid parking in Winchester) all knew where The Grange was and how to get there, so finding the place in the dark (not an easy task!) is not a concern for the cab company.

Our stay at The Grange marked the final night of a 6 day trek, which had started with a night at Rhinefield House, in The New Forest. I have to say, our experience of staying at The Grange easily surpassed that of Rhinefield House, in terms of both accommodation and customer service.
Nigel and Jeanne (the owners) are two of the friendliest people you are ever likely to come across. On hearing the sound of my car pulling up in the car park, Nigel came outside to personally welcome us. I got the impression nothing would have been too much trouble for them, to make our stay memorable.
As for the accommodation... this is going to be a very hard act to follow. On entering our room, we were both immediately overwhelmed by its sheer size, with such a high ceiling. Luxurious fittings, impeccable cleanliness and exquisite attention to detail, made staying here an experience to savour. The bathroom had to be seen to be believed. It was larger than most hotel main rooms! Apart from the extra large bath, with its own television, a ceramic-tiled curved wall led invitingly into a walk-in shower, where the water temperature and pressure could easily be precisely fine-tuned exactly right. The settee on the large balcony overlooking the garden was extremely comfortable.
My only regret was that due to time constraints, I was only able to stay here for one night. If ever I need to stopover in the Winchester area again, I would most definitely choose to stay here.
