On arriving we were upgraded to the cottage suite - a fantastic experience. All of the staff were so friendly and couldn't do enough for us. A thoroughly enjoyable two night stay! |

Almost everything was perfect. Guests are waited on by efficient, friendly staff who respond willingly to requests. I was able to have a cooked breakfast the second morning because the hotel sourced some veggie sausages at my request. It arrived hot and freshly cooked, not having sat on a hot plate for half an hour. I was a little disappointed to be charged £23 for the two continental breakfasts we had on our first morning. (I queried it; breakfasts are apparently more expensive if you book the room-only rate offered by this site). The gym has five pieces of equipment placed close together. OK if you are a friendly type. We thoroughly enjoyed our short stay here. This is a hotel where guests are very well looked after. Recommended. |

We didnt score Value for money because we got an excellent discounted rate from laterooms.com, and therefore cannot score it in context. At the price we paid it was exceptional value for money, but if i were scoring it against the rack rate i would score it 4 out of 6. This is not a family hotel, and perhaps best kept that way. Its well kept, very nice grounds, and I would feel cheated if I had paid rack rate to find kids running around everywhere. There are no tea/coffee facilities in the room, and no iron (although there is a 2hour [chargeable] ironing service). Coupled with the cost of having tea via room service @ £5/pot, these were negative things for us. Spa is small but functional. Pool was tepid but acceptable. Cleanliness of spa not as good as hotel (grills on air vents in male changing were very dirty shows lack of attention to detail or lack of 'dedicated' cleaning staff for the spa). Steam room was out of of order, but being worked on at the time. We both had Spa treatments which were very good. Our rate did not include breakfast, so we did not score Food, we went to York in the evening to eat, 5 mins by car, so ideally located if you're happy to stay out of town a little. |
