We booked the hotel for one night's B&B as a cheap late booking. The staff on the reception desk were friendly and the check-in procedure smooth, although our first impressions were not great as the reception area and hotel corridors were very old-fashioned and tired looking. The corridors also had a bit of a musty smell in places. Our top floor room was a decent size and clean although it was basic, a bit shabby and had a large damp-looking patch on the ceiling. The bed was soft and not overly comfortable, but I've slept in worse. The breakfast buffet the next morning was okay with a reasonable hot choice, although the staff seemed to be labouring unnecessarily over seating guests at specific tables even though the whole dining room was only about a third full. We overheard one couple complaining that someone else was sitting at their table! We didn't sample the evening entertainment in the ballroom although there was a decent looking snooker table in the games room. |
