This hotel is deceptive from the outside - much better once you get in. However, it is a grade listed building and as such, has no sound proofing. The kitchen closes at by 11pm so the noise from kitchen stops but you can hear other guests. The staff are very accomodating/friendly but the hotel reception is at the bar which did throw us a bit to start. Easy to find as off main road & plenty of parking. If you want dinner - book! Their resturant is popular. |

The hotel is a very nice building and has been very sympathetically modernised and tastefully furnished. The room was excellent, the bed comfortable with good linen and a good bathroom. The food was excellent. The planting and surrounding garden could do with attention and were the first signs that the human care and attention was lacking. The raised kitchen herb beds were the first indicator that all was not as it should be and that pride was not riding high in the kitchen. (one week end of clearing, digging and planting would sort it). The staff attitude was not focused on guests. Friends who live nearby joined us for an enjoyable dinner but towards the end of our meal we were embarrassed by the rude and clumsey manners of the staff who clearly cared only about going home. Our guests were speechless. The hotel is locked at night and guests do have a feeling of being locked into an unfamiliar establishment with no in-house staff. |

Room slightly shabby, not worth anyehere near the £90/night single B&B midweek. Suprised that it has 4 AA diamonds. |

The hotel was let down by the slow service - they were advertising for staff so this may be a temporary problem. The room was very nice but spoilt by the tissue paper that was packed into the window in the bathroom. It would also been good to have access to a hair-dryer in the room. The food was of very good quality especially the summer pudding and breakfast was good but simple things like having milk on each table were missing so this affected what was generally a positive experience. |
