    These ratings are based on the fact that we got exactly what we expected, namely that the
    Imperial Rooms are exactly that - Rooms only, i.e. this is not a hotel.
    That said, they were ideal in every respect:
    * Location
    * Staff helpfulness/friendliness
    * View (well potentially if the scafolding hadn't been there while we stayed) - normally throw the windows open, look left and you are staring at the colliseum 30 yards away...nice!
    * Room facilities
    * Price - for 4 people in Rome
    * Oh and did I mention the location?
    We (my Wife, our two kids (11 & 13) and myself) stayed here for a week during Autumn Half-Term. We all had a superb time. The location was superb (we'd come for a purely ancient Roman experience) and it was brilliant to see the area where we stayed on the maps of ancient Rome right next to the Colliseum; it really gave an extra feeling of 'being there'.
    If you want to be closer to the Tourist Triangle (Spanish Steps/Trevi Fountain/Piazza Navone) then you need to be up town from here, otherwise you are looking at around 15-20€ Taxi fare. However, if you want to 'live' in the heart of ancient Rome then this is ideal.
    There's a selection of reasonably priced nearby Restaurants used by the local residents; some have groups of people standing in the road/on the pavement patiently waiting for a table. We simple asked the staff in paricular Ovido (I'm sure I've spelt that wrong), or Uncle Ovido as our kids called him, who was great at recommending decent places to go. We never had a bad one based on his recommendations - Le Neumachie is particularly noteworthy Great Food/Great Servce/Great Atmosphere and very reasonably priced. He was more than happy to go out of his way to assist us, even calling into the booking office to organise our trip to Pompeii for us. He really made a difference for us.
    As other people have noted, breakfast is taken at a Cafe round the block from the Imperial Rooms. Some people have mentioned that the breakfast selection can be a little limited at times. Well we never experienced that and took breakfast at a variety of times from around 08:00 to 09:30. The staff were always friendly and helpful and the view of the Colliseum over breakfast was a nice treat that really didn't get old.
    Others have mentioned the bars/noise/local community. Well we had no issues with any of this. The double glazing muffled most of the street noise, this would have been fine in summer too as the rooms had decent aircon units so you wouldn't have to have the windows open for ventillation. There was a slight thudding through the floor but nothing that disturbed us, and as for the local community, well gay or otherwise they were nothing but firiendly. The Gay nightlife doesn't really kick off till around 23:00+ and on the ocassions when the kids were up and about at this time there was nothing overt going on. In fact they actually made Halloween all that more colourful as many of them had gone to some effort with costumes.
    If anything it just added to the educational nature of the trip for our kids!
    All in all a brilliant place to stay. We'd definitely stay again and would recommend it to family and friends.

    Good location with easy access to Metro. Breakfast was from a cafe not on site but was adequate. The rooms were tastefully decorated and the large bed was very comfortable. All the staff were friendly and accommodating and Salvatore displayed a very fine dry sense of humour. Although it did not bother us, the area does tend to get swamped with gays in the evenings that assemble by the Colloseum and the cafe/bars - double glazing helped with sound proofing. A lively area but not disabled or elderly friendly. Would certainly stay again.

    The Imperial Rooms are a very short walk from the Colosseum Metro station. The entrance is between 2 cafes which become "lively" bars at night. The music can be a bit off putting as it continues till about 3 am. so make sure your room is at the back. We had room 4 at the back and it never bothered us. The room was very nice in the Italian/Venetian style and the staff are very friendly and helpfull. Breakfast is not serveed in the hotel but at a cafe at the end of the block. It consisted of a crossant, bread roll, orange juice, coffee or tea and a fruit salad. All in all we had a very pleasant stay and would recommend the Imperial Rooms. After all, where else can you step outside the front door of your hotel, turn left, and the colosseum is 100m in front of you.
