I thought this hotel was lovely and very unusual with the bedrooms being set away from the restaurant. Ideally located for Oakham, Peterborough, Rutland Water and Stamford. I am a very very picky veggie (but eats fish so be warned) but the soup was excellent and the staff were more than happy to not cook my chips in beef dripping when asked. My partner is a chef and couldn't complain about the food. The staff were all very friendly and chatty. For the price we paid I could not fault and would definiately recommend and stay again.

Make sure you specifically book for breakfast in the room (price is extra but the food is excellent). We nearly came unstuck as we hadn't been told we had to book breakfast, we just assumed it would be provided for us at extra cost. As my husband is diabetic, it's potentially quite disastrous for us not to have access to food in the morning, particularly as the location isn't close to any shops or other obvious breakfast venues. We had something of a shock to come down from our room in the morning and find the pub/hotel locked up - by luck, the owner was in the kitchen round the back with the door open and we were able to get him to prepare a delicious breakfast for us, with a short wait. Had we not, it could have been quite serious for us as my husband needed his carbohydrates and insulin! To be fair, we did arrive at the hotel late (around 10.15pm), so all this might have been explained to us had we arrived at an earlier time.
The room was sweltering, but otherwise very comfortable and pleasant with nice home touches.
