The staff were very friendly and service at dinner was excellent. The food was well excuted and the menu well balanced. The wine list is surprisingly reasonable. Service at breakfast was slow and a little bit shambolic. In some areas the hotel has crossed over from shabby chic into just shabby. Our bedroom decor had seen better days and the bathroom needed a complete revamp. Having a carpet in a bathroom is just disgusting. The chintz tent effect around what was a nice old cast iron bath was pretty horrible - it detracted from the bath and felt unclean. The hotel grounds are lovely and we really enjoyed going for walks in the surrounding estate. |

Fantastic hotel - for a weekend you can pretend you are a guest in an Edwardian country house. rather than in a hotel. Very attentive and well trained staff, excellent food. It doesn't come cheap though! (Only minor gripe was odd choice of music played in the dining room, slightly intrusive even though it was played quietly.) |

Charming location and style; rooms a bit fusty and old fashioned which, I am sure, is part of the charm for some. Felt in need of a charismatic manager, a nicer lounge. Food was pretty good without being as spectacular as one had hoped. When compared with other benchmark country houses in Scotland such as Kinnaird, it is distinctly second....for not much difference in price. |

Hotel "does what it says on the tin". Its own website gives an accurate account of what it is like. Calm, peaceful, comfortable, with high quality food and service.. |
