Without doubt the worst hotel I have ever stayed at. It was locked when we arrived and had to wait half an hour before anybody turned up to let us in. The food was attrocious. The wifi didn't work. When I asked to speak to the owner in the morning to express my numorous complaints the recptionist, who seemed to do everything, came back and told me he was too busy to speak to me. |

Upon arrival they did not have our booking so a good start, the room is not quirky it is a 1970s rail carriage which is very badly decorated including a 1970's pea green bathroom suite. The T.V did not work due to the arial not being able to reach the socket. After being told that this would be sorted within half an hour of us reporting it, we were still waiting 1 hours later , they then promised it would be sorted while we were out at dinner, but had still not been seen to when we returned, it is still not working as far as I know! The heating did not work. The 1 electical socket in the room is loose on the wall and nearly came off when we plugged something else in it. The bed was comfy and the linen was clean. So much more could be made of these rooms especially for £70-90.00 per night. The food was overpriced for what it was, a good selection of italian based foods but the service took a long time, we went for dinner at 7.30pm and got away at 9.30pm and sat for 45 minutes with empty glasses trying to catch the attention of the waiter. Advertising Stella on draught and told their was no Stella. Breakfast the following morning was the same, the italian waiter had to be instructed on what a latte was and the english breakfast was very greasy and didn't taste that nice, I think they might need to wash the frying pans. |

My young son and I had a wonderful stay here. The staff were all lovely from the moment we arrived, even giving us complementary drinks whilst we registered. The restaurant was fantastic, beautiful inside and the food really was gorgeous. The restaurant certainly seems to be making a name for itself with the local people, and we would certainly eat there regularly if we lived closer. The gardens were very attractive and well looked after. The room was very novel, very compact, but well fitted. It wasn't quite up to the standard of the restaurant though, and could have done with a "deep clean". However, you can see that they are continuing to improve since other reviews, for example the bed had lovely crisp white new linen, and there were even rose petals on the bed on arrival. There was a kettle and plenty of supplies, and the staff were happy to provide jugs of fresh milk if like us you don't like those little milks found in hotels. The room was only let down by slightly grubby corners, dust and fluff under the mattress on the bed frame, an uncomfortable mattress and a rusty radiator in the otherwise ok shower room. They seem to be continuing to renovate though and with a bit more renovation of the interior and exterior of the carriages it will be a superb place to stay if you like something different. The situation of the hotel is great whether you like trains or not and the noise from passing trains on the East Coast mainline was not intrusive at all. All in all, we loved the place and will definitely return. |

The hotel was fairly easy to locate but I had done a map of the area beforehand. The food was Italian based but ok. Unfortunately the room we stayed in was very small, facing the front car park with no net curtains, so we had no privacy at all unless we closed the very tatty curtains! The room was not cleaned or attended to during our stay due to them losing the staff keys!!! It is based well for access to York with a good Park and Ride close by. |
