Sun Inn Hawkshead

Main Street,Hawkshead, Hawkshead (Ambleside)

Located in the charming unspoilt village of Hawkshead, this delightful 17th Century Inn has everything to offer those looking for an ideal break or holiday away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life
Ideally situated in the centre of the village, the Sun Inn has oak beams and an open fire. We are ETB commended (4 diamonds) and AA recommended (4 diamonds).
All our bedrooms are now re-open from the 7th march. We have just fully refurbished all bedrooms to a very high standard, each bedroom is unique.
Our new menu features locally reared lamb and beef from the green lakeland fells, as well as trout caught in Esthwaite, only 5 minutes walk away.
Hawkshead village, centred around a beautiful church and grounds has magnificent views of Esthwaite Water, Claife Heights and the surrounding fells. The village is rich in history including the Grammar School attended by William Wordsworth, Anne Tyson's 17th Century Cottage and the ever popular Beatrix Potter museum.
The central square boasts an array of quaint coffee houses, tasteful gift shops and small boutiques. There is also an excellent selection of sports and leisure wear from the main Hawkshead shop ideally situated just opposite the Sun Inn.

A superb little pub with rooms. The rooms are small but very nice having being recently refurbished. Everything is new and all the little touches are there. The food in the pub is also great and not too expensive. The portions are huge!!
We got there quite late (9pm) on a Thursday night but the pub serves food until 9.30pm so we managed to eat and have a few drinks even arriving that late. The breakfast the next day was also superb.
The hotel is a great base for exploring the lakes, being only 5 miles to Bowness (Windermere centre) by the ferry which is £3.50 per car.
I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone.

excellant refurbishment, very friendly staff, good position in the village and close to the public car park which we used.Perhaps they could arrange for a chair to be available in the bedroom.

we booked this hotel thinking it was a small quaint 17th century family run hotel. However we never came into contact with the owners, it was run by very polite european personnel. The room was very clean and has clearly been refurbished. We were provided with a car park permit & had our car park fee refunded, this was much appreciated. The breakfast was very good. Overall for the amount we paid on late rooms we were happy. The public bar is dingy and has a very annoying slot machine, so having a quiet drink was not so enjoyable.
