Churston Court Inn at first is a lovely historical building set in its own grounds with lots of character and full of artifacts. Where to start really, after seeing the Inn on late rooms I browsed their website and decided to book a room from a package offer of dinner, bed and breakfast in a four poster bedded room for my wife and myself to celebrate our silver wedding anniversary, we arrived on the Saturday evening and was shown to our room, when we eventually accessed the room due to an illfitting lock it was like a prison cell with a very high window overlooking a courtyard into other bedrooms, the room was extremely small with no dressing table or telephone and a wardrobe where the door wouldnt shut, the four poster bed was exactly that a wooden bed with four posts on it no drapes or nets with the top ferrules missing off the bed posts nearest the window to make it fit in. We overcame that disappointment and decided to go down and eat, the restaurant was busy with a murder mystery evening and full of noisy overacting people making huge amounts of noise whilst we sat down to await service, we were not informed at any stage this event was taking place and wouldn't have booked if known. When we were given the menu I was told because of the package booked there were cost supplements to the menu, again, not told of this prior to or when booking in. After we ate a very average meal with no taste or flair we decided to have a drink in the garden cut our losses and retire to bed. Breakfast was equally if not more disappointing, no table was set for the room and had to wait until one was cleaned and set up before we could sit down, the buffet part of croissants and orange juice had to be requested, the restaurant was dirty with old food and cutlery inder the radiator by our table with obviously no cleaning taken place for a while, the worst item was flies buzzing around our table and breakfast buffet. After a truly dreadful experience we decided to leave and wished we hadn't stayed especially because of the occasion. We will not be booking again or recommending to anyone, and advise people to think very carefully before staying. |

Good breakfast, excellent dinner served in the restaurant. Narrow, winding roads to access the hotel, but well worth it when you arrive. The hotel was charming and different from anywhere else that we have stayed. Large, modern bathroom with walk-in shower and separate bath. Lovely bedroom - but a little on the small side to accommodate a 4-poster bed! We would definitely stay here again. |

Thought the red paint in the bedroom was too dark as the furniture was dark wood - it made for a gloomy room. The bathroom was stunning. The food was excellent and totally surprised me - thought I would get "gastro" pub meals but thankfully was very wrong. My only criticism of the food was the choice for dinner bed & breakfast guests was very limited - you could choose other items but you had to pay an extra supplement. |
