Bovey Castle

North Bovey, Moretonhampstead (Nr Exeter)

Bovey Castle sits majestically high on the edge of the valley overlooking all that surrounds her, within 368 square miles of the Dartmoor National Park, Devon. Below the beautifully restored Edwardian gardens, the Championship golf course meanders along the valley and the burbling river Bovey sparkles and glistens as it makes it way down from the high moor. Originally built as a private house and sporting estate, it exudes the elegance, luxury and the excitement of the 1920's.

Our stay at Bovey castle was truely amazining. The service and staff attitude was excellent and certainly up to 5* standards. We were made comfortable and at ease in what could only be described as an "awe-inspiring" location. My wife and I stayed here to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary and were really treated like royalty. I've been priviledged to stay in a number of 1st class hotel over the last few years and would certainly recommend this to my friends and colleagues.
Prior to booking I had read the reviews posted and was a lttle concerned, but we are both so glad we booked; the hotel is just completing a major redecoration (which i must say is very well done) and we certainly did not experience any of the problem other reviewers have described. The pool/sauna area is very well laid out and the daily activities (we had a falconry display) were very good. The view from our room wasn't very good but we were in one of the more "basic" rooms however the room itself was clean, very well decorated and fitted-out to a very high standard.
The one area i would suggest needs a little attention is the gymn; although well equiped, the room is crowded with equipment and the ventelation is not good. Unfortunately this gives the room a "locker room odour" which isn't too pleasant, even first thing in the morning.

Bovey Castle is a great place to stay for a special occasion. I booked a room here for my husbands 40th birthday and we had a brilliant time. The castle is beautiful and the scenery breathtaking. The only draw back is that it is not very well signposted and it took us a while to find, well worth it though!
