The hotel was a little difficult to find, although not ncessarily the fault of the hotel itself, as there were few signs directing drivers to the Lakeside Complex (surprising given the comlex's status as an important sporting venue). Even after reaching the complex we ended up at the wrong hotel as the signage is not clear! This must be a frequent occurrence as the receptionist in the other hotel (its name escapes me) had a note of our names and the lady in the queue behind us had made the same mistake. Only mildly embarrassing in the overall scheme of things for my colleague and I, but not so great if you are running late or very tired at the end of a long journey (we had parked up and taken our bags out of the car, as you do).
Once at the correct hotel there were plenty of parking spaces and we received a warm welcome (and check in was quick and efficient). One small detail I liked was receiving a proper key for my room instead of those useless programmed cards (what purpose do those things serve?). The room was very conservatively decorated and furnished (I'd even go so far as describing it as dated really), but more than adequately sized. The room was very hot and it was rather difficult to get cool air in. The bathroom was clean and spacious, but the installation of the taps in the sink left something to be desired as I could get my hands under them properly! (I believe the technical term is a 'short spigot' ! ). The towels were the usual scratchy type with that over laundered chemically smell, but that seems to be the standard hotel thing nowadays. The shower was *very* powerful, infact almost too powerful and not only did water get sparayed on the floor (dangerous), I also wondered if I'd have skin left after my showers. Funnily enough my colleague reported that his shower was a dribble, go figure! The TV was pretty poor, old fashined 4:3 with only 4 olde worlde analog channels (but picture was OK). Just as well I had my mp3 and a good book.... Breakfast was OK, comfy restaurant chairs. Cooked choice good (trad. English) but sausages very nasty, bacon OK but could have been better Eggs ok, but greasy. Id've preferred to make may own toast instead of it just being left on a serving plate for customers to pick up. Coffee was mediocre and I thought only 1.5 cups in the pot was a bit mean (I need a good caffiene shot in the morning!!). The evening meal in the bar was acceptable, but the chicken in my Korma was gristly (sp.?). Bar beer choice poor. Overall hotel was OK, but represented pretty poor value for money at £120 a night (and that was the cheapest rate). Just as well the company was paying! Oh, and checkout was quick and the staff were very friendly (so definately not all bad!)

Looks very modern from outside but inside is like a 70's throwback. Only 4 terrestrial channels in room despite website stating satellite tv. Breakfast was adequate but breakfast room was musty smelling.
