Swinton Park

Swinton, Nr. Ripon in Yorkshire Dales

With 4 Red Stars and 3 Rosettes awarded by the AA for excellent facilities, high levels of service and quality of cuisine, this is the highest rated hotel in Yorkshire and Cumbria. Swinton Park is the ancestral home of the Cunliffe-Lister family and is set in 200 acres of parkland, lakes and gardens. The castle is surrounded by the family estate in which guests have access to rivers, reservoirs, moorland, dales and beautiful countryside bordering the Yorkshire Dales National Park. The bedrooms, on first and second floors, are individually designed and decorated on the theme of a Yorkshire town, dale, castle, abbey or garden, according to the aspect of the room. All rooms are equipped with two direct dial telephones, a modem point, CD player, satellite TV, trouser press, drinks tray and coffee/tea facilities. Four of the thirty bedrooms are suites and the turret room is on three floors with a (steep!) staircase between. A lift serves both first and second floors. Four of the en-suite bathrooms are equipped for disabled use.

Directions from the A1: Take the B6267 off of the A1, signposted Thirsk and Masham, and follow the signs to Masham. Once you reach the town centre, follow the road past the Market Square and HSBC Bank. Take the second right onto Swinton Terrace. This road will lead you past Masham Golf Course and up the hill to the gates of Swinton Park.

Only one issue, given wrong time for Spa but this small error was handled superbly. First class hotel and first class service. fantastic.

For a short break Swinton Park is probably the best hotel we have used so far in the UK. Service was exceptional, welcome was the best, room a touch dated but huge and very bright (Middleham) and the surroundings fantastic. Food was expensive, but again excellent, as was breakfast. Overall, very hard to fault.

This was a faultless hotel. Fantastic service, beautiful rooms and landscaped grounds, definately recommend you stay here for at least one night, you will want to come back for more . 10 out of 10 Swinton Park.
