The only thing that lets this hotel down is the room. As other guests have mentioned the rooms are in need of some updating. We stayed in Sea spray on the first floor. I payed for a seaview room, the sea was obscured by a tree, but at least it hid the skip of dumped matresses and bits of bathroom (I looked at this as a positive thing - at least they are doing some of the bathrooms up!!!) |

We had stayed at Gleneagles twice before - the last time about four years ago. We had had good deals on the previous two occasions, and although the hotel was a little tired then, it exuded some charm. We understood that the hotel had rebranded itself, and thought it would be a good place to go for four nights over the Whitsun period to see what had been done with the hotel. We were very disappointed. Apart from the operational manager, Trevor, the rest of the visible staff were unimpressive with little concept of customer service. This was particularly noticeable on the front desk reception where the man and woman who appeared to interchange were equally indifferent to guets. We had booked a rear sea view room. The front of the hotel had been smartened up, but we were disappointed to see that the balconies for the sea facing rooms were exactly as we had seen them four years ago. They were rusty with plastic chairs on them that looked like they had never been washed. If the weather had been okay we would not have been able to sit on the balcony even if we had wished to. The room was adquate. We were surprised to find that the small portable TV was operating with an internal aerial only, and the only channels available were BBC 1, BBC 2, ITV and Channel 4!! The towels were thin and not nice at all, and, on one occasion, the toilet paper had not been renewed by the cleaner which could have been very embarrassing. |
