Dreadful. Having planned a surpirse week-end away for my husband, I was bitterly disappointed. In fact, it is the first time I have cried on turning up at a hotel! I immediately cancelled the second night and only stayed the first night as we had a dinner engagement in the area and needed to stay. The drive up to the hotel was promising, but then we were exposed to serious excavation work (I understand this is for the new golf course), and various 'Halls' on either side of the drive - they were very run down and looked like very poor student accommodation. The main house is (or rather obviously was in its heyday) beautiful. Unfortunately, the vast majority of the rooms are in modern (well 70's) buildings attached to the main house and are awful. The rooms are small and not particularly clean. Our bathroom had a broken shower rail, which had never been repaired and the ends were left hanging on the wall. The shower was mouldy. The sheets on the bed were old and rough. The public areas of the modern buildings are dark and dingy. The public areas in the main house were alright, although not welcoming - not many flowers or any ambience. The flower pots on the terrace were not planted. One can see that this property was used as a training centre by Natwest and a religous order in the 60's - 80's. Definitely not a country house hotel. I would not recommend anyone to stay at this property. I could go on, but lack of space prevents me. I think this hotel needs a serious overhaul and needs to look at their overall presenation. I have travelled around the world and stayed in many hotels of various ratings and would have to say this is one of the worst. |

This hotel was absolutely dreadful- i had been travelling for five hours when i got to the hotel and was looking forward to relaxing. I knew that the room i would be allocated was situated away form the main building as it stated this on the booking but in no way was i prepared for what was in store. |
