Halfway House Inn

Halfway House, BRIDGNORTH

The Halfway House Inn is a 16th Century Inn situated in beautiful Shropshire countryside just over a mile from Bridgnorth Town Centre. Peter & Cecile Williams have been at The Halfway House since 1997 & have been successful hoteliers & publicans for over 40 years. They are well known for both the quality of their home cooked locally sourced food. There is a humongous breakfast to sustain the heartiest of appetites, a bar menu for lunchtime, a seasonal a la carte & a 3 Course table d'hote dinner menu to choose from. The Inn was somewhat notorious, mainly in relation to after hours drinking offences & the present proprietor is proud to be continuing this tradition, often well into the early hours, although now restricted to residents & their bona fide guests.First licensed in 1620,it was originally known as the Old Red Lion Inn but following a visit by Princess Victoria in 1823 whilst en route between Pitchford Hall near Shrewsbury & Great Witley Court near Worcester she asked where she was. The reply was given "halfway there m'am". Since then date the Inn has been known by its' present name. The oldest part of the building also boasts a wonderful example of an Elizabethan wall mural that has been preserved behind glass for all to see.

we were very disappointed with the be. It was our first time away together as a couple and specifically booked a double room with a double bed.
when we arrived, we found that the "double" bed was actually 2 singles pushed together with 2 single quilts on them, simply covered by a double sheet. Extremely disappointing

Fairly easy to find.Accessibilty and parking OK. Room unfriendly withsome dampness/discoloured decoration showing on bedroom walls.En-Suite tiny with cloakroom sized washbasin which inadequate, shower not fixed properly.Tv in room badly placed -tiny and woeful reception.Noisy c/heating pump and pub below noisy up 'till 2.00am in the morning. However room was warm during our stay.Did not have breakfast as this extra and too expensive.Had an evening meal on first night which only just adequate.Could only reccommend for travel weary ramblers who would be too tired to care.Very, very basic and glad to get home!

Easily found and delightful hotel with excellent food (both breakfast and evening meals come as an extra) at reasonable prices. The "Full English" breakfast was to die for! The only drawback with our stay was that we found the bed very hard and rated the room down for this reason. At this price it will be difficult to find a friendlier better value hostlery. THANKS!
