Kings Head Hotel

10 Market Place, Richmond

The stunning Kings Head Hotel is steeped in Georgian History and overlooks the largest cobbled market square in Europe. The picturesque hotel is surrounded by a Norman Castle, Theatre Royal and 2 museums. The classic design creates a wonderful atmosphere with log fires, stylish, comfortable, spacious and finely presented public areas. The recently refurbished bedrooms have all the modern gadgets and are all individually decorated.
The food is award winning with everything freshly homemade and in many cases local produce. The recently redesigned Kings restaurant is a favourite for locals as is the al fresco dining from which in the summer you can watch the hustle and bustle of the market square.
Richmond is renowned for it's superb views and is the perfect base for exploring the dales

Stay here just to use the restaurant. Great food. Everything was good quality and there was a fair selection of half decent wines.
Richmond is a lovely town and this hotel give you a great base to explore it and the surrounding area.
My room was a bit pokey but it was clean. The staff here are friendly and helpful. It's so nice to see genuine smiles. Again, another hotel that does not cater for smokers in any way. I don't need to be able to smoke in my room, but there's space by the side of the bar area for a covered and heated smoking area and that would be a nice addition and make nicotine addicts like myself feel less like second class citizens.

An impressive location on the main Market Place. The overall external appearance of the hotel is rather poor compared say to its refurbished dining room. The room I had was furnished in a mixture of differing styles from pine to late nineteenth century which gave the impression that it was done on a low budget. The beamed ceiling intruded significantly into the room space. The roof was a nesting place for pigeons who cooed throughout the night. Having said this the room, breakfast and evening meal rate was excellent value with the food of a very high standard.

An old building with associated eccentricities - no lift, confusing lay-out. Our bedroom had a frosted glass window - hence no view whatsoever.
Food was first class. Free parking at hotel limited but plenty of parking on square from 6pm to 0900 - after that parking limited to 2 hours and a disc required.
Comments of other reviewers inaccuarate - square has a single samll supermarket - the rest of the shops being small and varied - no noise in september.
Worth a vist but it is not a modern business hotel.

Staff were helpful and pleasant. I arrived late and asked if it was possible to have a bar snack. The chef cooked an excellent meal even though it was within minutes of the menu being unavailable.
