I would absolutely recommend this fantastic hotel to anyone. Situated in a beautiful village. Very friendly and helpful staff, gorgeous good size room, nice and clean. Food in the Orchards is expensive for what it is but beautifully cooked and the dessert was to die for. Breakfast is excellent and plentiful. Hope to stay in the future.

Looks good, but scratch beneath the surface to find a poor hotel…
I booked the room via laterooms.com and paid £80 B&B for a ‘deluxe garden room’ with an advertised room rate of £165.
I contacted the hotel by email a couple of times as I was staying due to a relatives wedding close by, but without response as I wanted to book in soon after midday. I eventually spoke by phone and they couldn’t confirm that was acceptable and said they would try to accommodate me. There were no problems in the end, but the customer service was lacking.
On arrival the porterage was excellent and showed us to our room, which was OK, on the ground floor (room 122) overlooking the rose walk. However it is not air conditioned, has no sat TV, and no fridge, it required a ‘spruce up’ and a fresh coat of paint, although it was clean with lovely towels.
On leaving for the wedding I requested a Sunday paper. Upon return the room was exceptionally stuff and there was plenty of noise in the hotel with paper thin walls and floors, I was able to easily hear conversations of both adjoing rooms and the discussions the following morning of the parents and child above us!
No paper delivered, thus I went to breakfast and asked about the paper, where they offered use of the reception papers, which were incomplete as I wasn’t first to read it! Due to the weather we asked to be seated in the internal courtyard as this provided a loveley setting and after 40 mins were eventually served by a selection of eastern Europeans with little or no ideas of service, I opted for the fish, and after having had this order checked three times was told that the fish was no longer available and that breakfast was now over, over 1 hour since first arriving….. the service became rude when I pointed out that we had been waiting for some time and I was told that it was my fault for choosing to sit outside, as were many others (at least five tables) that they didn’t normally serve in this area (which I wasn’t told when we initially arrived and asked for a table in the courtyard).
I had booked Sunday lunch with some elderly relatives (both in their 90’s but exceptionally mobile) and had concerns about keeping the booking, however as not to disappoint and to give the Haycock the benefit of the doubt lunch was taken, and ok, but exceptionally expensive for what was provided (the eastern European you took the order could tell me what the ‘fresh lamb’ was on the menu, and when asked further said it was a ‘rack of lamb’, which when it arrived it wasn’t!!), fixed menu of £24.95. Again the service left much to be desired.
On paying the bill I enquired about the payment for a paper, and was advised that one was never ordered!!!

Needles to say I won’t be recommending this hotel and recommend that if you’re in the area, the George at Stamford is far better, or the pub in Collyweston, or the Bell in Stilton…… take your pick

Lovely building, fabulous grounds, excellent room (junior suite). However the much acclaimed chef does not work on a Sunday, beware the resultant bar food is awful! Breakfast non too great either. Its the little things that make the difference!
