The hotel looke nice fron outside and the entrance and reception area with its sweeping stairs was impressive. However the rest of the hotel was a bit tired looking. The room had a small tv which had an indoor aerial perched on top plus an aerial lead from the back of the set into a wall socket. i could only get a few channels and some of those were fuzzy, and the sky news channel cropped up 3 times! The bathroom was ok although the standard dark stains in the toilet bowl and around rhe bath ( on the sealant ) were there.
I went to the bar and waited for 5 minutes to be served. I had to ask the receptionist to get someone. The meal service was ok but the wines, as mentioned to the girl serving me were well overpriced for the type of restaurant. I was sitting at 7pm and there was no-one else in the restaurant, although there was a special party of people in another area sitting at 8pm i believe. I felt rushed when although i had put my knife and fork down as a sign of being finished another waiter took my plate away whilst i was still eating, and proceeded to ask whether i wanted a sweet - i had to send him away for 5 minutes!! The standard of food was acceptable, no more than that. I asked for coffee and mints in the lounge, i got coffe but no mints. basically the hotel just needs to get more professional and get tidied up a bit.

Good hotel, with a few improvements it could be great. Standard rooms basic, would upgrade to superior if we went again. Food good. Great location.

The biggest problem was the hotel giving better service to those attending functions than paying guests. We had been warned that a wedding on the Saturday night of our 2 night stay meant we could not eat there, so as we were travelling a long way to meet friends travelling from the other end of the country on Friday, we looked forward to a meal at the hotel. No chance, a Xmas party took over the dining room, bar and reception areas. The wedding party did the same the following night. We had to sit in the breakfast room to have a drink at 10.30pm. Felt like intruders at someone elses party! Staff helpful but taxis were expensive as the hotel is a few miles from the nearest pubs and restaurants. Room clean but a bit worn-looking, and up in the attic, almost.
