Booked a superior twin room which was light, clean and spacious. Hotel restaurant was not my first choice for dinner because of the prices but there are few local alternatives. |

The quoted "normal rate" on Laterooms.com for our stay was £240 and the rate quoted for our booking was £119. Therefore we thought we were getting a fantastic room for half price. When we arrived the room was nice but not worth £240. Whilst looking through the welcome folder we saw that the actual price for our room was £55 per person per night (£110 for us) so we were actually being charged £9 more than the usual rate! We called Laterooms.com and they told us that all the price information was put on the site by the hotel themselves. The hotel receptionist said the £119 price was their usual room price plus £9 to cover the charge made by Laterooms.com. She said she didn't know what the £240 room rate was based on, When we spoke to the hotel owner later they said the £240 was the most they could charge for any room in the hotel on a Saturday night (we were staying on a cheaper friday night). They said this was a standard practice for a number of hotels they had checked on Laterooms.com. Everyone needs to be aware of this practice. We told the owner we thought this was blatant mis-representation and frankly a bit of a con and they apologised but said again it was standard practice. |

Extremely disapppointed. Once again an example of a British hotel that could be really good with a little extra effort. So-called "executive" room was a grubby cramped hot attic which seemed to distinguish itself only by the presence of a small fridge (empty!). Mattress appeared to have a plastic protective cover under the sheet which made it even more uncomfortable. Food was very variable - an excellent starter an execrably bad main course, and a huge portion of mediocre dessert. Breakfast inedible. I could NOT recommend this hotel to anyone, and the price they charge is a real p*ss-take |
