Nestled peacefully amongst the Eastern Lakeland Fells and located on many of the best-loved Lakeland walks, this charming country retreat is ideal for a peaceful break in Dockray.
Run by a charismatic and friendly family, the hotel provides a relaxed, informal but efficient service, well suited to the Lakeland way of life. The Helvellyn and High Street mountain ranges are right on the doorstep, which makes The Royal Hotel an ideal and comfortable base for walkers.
The facilities include 10 en suite bedrooms, a large restaurant and a bar that boasts a fine selection of wines, locally produced Real Ales and malt whiskies.

Travelling from North or South take M6 junction 40 onto A66 heading towards Keswick. After 10 miles turn left onto A5091 signed Dockray & Ullswater. The Hotel is 4 miles on right. Please advise Hotel if you expect to arrive after 9.30pm. Food is only available until 9pm.

More like a pub with rooms rather than a hotel but comfortable and welcoming none the less. No televison reception which is unacceptable in this day and age. Food was good but portions were modest. Evening entertainment is a choice between either sitting in ones hotel room (minus tv reception) or downstairs in the bar; there is no other option within reasonable walking distance.

For the money it was great value. Obviously they are just renting out apartments before they sell them so don't really care about the condition - ours looked like it had been used for a few parties! It was clean though, a great view and a good location. We would stay again.

Really good value, nice rooms, lovely breakfast, friendly staff. Would be nice to have breakfast a bit later than 8.30-9.00 seeing as we are on holiday but all fine.

As the TV reception is very poor ,perhaps they could consider DVD players and a library of films.
The hotel has a nice friendly atmosphere and is ideally placed for walking in the nortern Lakes
