The Cock Hotel

72-74 High Street, Stony Stratford

This is an historic hotel, refurbished to a 3 star standard, situated in the High Street of Stony Stratford. A town which for centuries has occupied an important position on the old Roman watling street. The phrase 'A Cock and Bull story' derives from 18th and 19th century travellers, telling hair raising 'tales of the road' on arrival at The Cock and nearby Bull public house. The hotel serves a range of freshly prepared bar meals and snacks throughout the day in the bar and comfortable snug bar. We also have a delightful walled courtyard, when in full bloom is full of picturesque colours. We are close to Milton Keynes Centre, which houses Europes largest indoor shopping centre, a variety of pubs and night clubs, a state of the art theatre, an indoor snowdome, ten-pin bowling alley, ice-skating rink and 2 large cinemas. Woburn Safari park is around 15mins away by car. Towcester is around 7 miles away, and this has quite a few pubs on the main High Street, which usually offer various forms of entertainment. Bicester and Buckingham are about 20 minutes away and both have various shops with different styles and tastes catered for. Bicester Village is located here as well. They offer brand named clothing, jewellery, accessories and footwear at discounted prices. Please Note - The hotel has a no smoking policy in all of its bedrooms, bars and public areas. Smoking is only allowed outside.

The pictures on the website did not reflect what we found when we got there, but the room was ok.
The shower riser rail was broken in the bathroom though.
The breakfast was very good and the staff were very polite.
Overall it was good.

This hotel has much character due to its age with narrow creaky corridors. However the room was a wonderful surprise. Very large and spacious, with a good quality bed.
We did not eat here nor did we encounter the staff except for check in and check out as we arrived late, so i canot really comment. But in terms of our nights sleep, we were very happy.

The hotel itself was beautiful. A real piece of history! The room was comfortable and clean. The only problem we found was the length of time waiting for breakfast! We waited for 40 mins for our breakfast and when we asked for another cup of tea, it never arrived as we were waiting for so long we left!
We would stay again though, it was value for money and a really nice hotel.

Room was lovely, exactly as descibed. Quality of food at breakfast was excellent although strange to eat in the bar with the cereals lined up on the bar! A side room (used for private functions) would have been better for serving breakfast.
