The Balavil Sport Hotel sits in the heart of the Cairngorms National Park, one of the most breathtaking natural landscapes in Scotland. Set in the heart of The Cairngorms National Park and Scottish "Wildcat" country in the stunning Inverness-shire. The hotel is surrounded by spectacular scenery and plenty of outdoor activities for you to enjoy such as hillwalking, river and loch fishing, canoeing and golf. Situated in the cosy Highland village of Newtonmore, the hotel is over one hundred years old and is very much in keeping with the local area. The family run Balavil Hotel extends a warm Highland welcome to all guests. The interior consists of open fires, wood panelled bar and a warm and friendly Scottish atmosphere.


The Balavil has 50 en suite bedrooms which are comfortable and well decorated creating a home from home atmosphere.

Only had the breakfast but it was 1st class. Big helping and cured the hangover. In need of a touch of TLC but a very nice hotel and friendly staff. Didnt use facilitys so unable to rate

At £35 a night this was excellent value for money and we did not encounter any of the problems we had read about in some of the other reviews. The service was friendly, the room was clean and it was nice to get the pool and sauna to ourselves as it was a quiet time of year. The only minor fault was that the double bed was just two single beds joined together but other than that we had no complaints.

Cheap but nothing special. Staff was on skeleton staff and customers suffered for it. Didn't feel welcome.

Comfortable and well appointed. No hairdrier in room but otherwise all that was needed was there.
