Convenient and pleasant location, just across from the railway station and next to the canal. Easy walking distance to the main town centre. Room very comfortable and clean. Staff friendly, especially the cheerful waitress on breakfast duty. Food excellent and very generous portions. Limited vegetarian main meals but I feel if I had asked the chef may have offered extra options. |

A handy place for people travelling by road, rail, or canal, and a good starting point for exploring the Dales. Somewhat eccentric mixture of Victorian commercial hotel updated upstairs, and popular-with-the-local-youth bar downstairs. (Also canal-side annexe.) But the room was fairly quiet and very comfortable (good bed for crashing out on) and imaginatively decorated in a rather grandiose way. No lift (drawback) but kind person to carry heavy luggage upstairs (advantage). Food described as 'traditional Yorkshire', which means hefty (the restaurant is somewhat alarmingly called 'Rhubarb'). Staff all very pleasant and helpful. |
