CLOITRE SAINT LOUIS

20 Rue du Portail Boquier, AVIGNON

* Historical Monument, Restaurant, Panoramic terrace over Avignon, Intimate and green garden, pool, solarium, 200m from the train station, 5 minutes from the Palais des Papes.
* You are in Avignon, in the very centre for shopping, culture and history. The city pulses around you, yet you feel you are in a haven. A cloister courtyard in ancient stone with plane trees more than three hundreds years old surround you. Only the sound of a fountain accompanies your footsteps echoing through the vaults. You are in the calm and light space of the hotel Cloître Saint Louis. Incomparable hotel happily brings together the grandeur of the past with contemporary purity...
* The hotel has 80 rooms and suites spread between the 16th century building and the contemporary wing, a terrace and a swimming pool with a panoramic view, an intimate and green inner garden, a parking (limited area). Of course the restaurant attracts with the menu with accents of the South and the service (depending on season) takes place in the ambulatory or the garden...so pleasant for sunday buffet luncheon. There is only one dilemma...which room to chose. Should one go for the peaceful cloister with its white stone, tree-filled garden, or the rooftops and monuments of Avignon ?

Lovely hotel with a classy and peaceful atmosphere, conveniently near the railway station. My room was slightly disappointing for a four star "Superior", strangely positioned up a narrow spiral staircase, and with tiny windows. It felt a little odd, but was pleasant enough once I got used to the slightly monastic, pared-down feel perhaps typical of the hotel's cloistered heritage. Nice staff and very pleasant restaurant.

The public facilities are very attractive (though the pool is on the small size), but the rooms - at least in the modern part - are not four star.
The front desk said there were no places in the restaurant the night we arrived. In fact there were.

Had 2 very enjoyable nights here. Stunning courtyard and achitecture. Well situated.
We had a traditional superior room. We will try the modern superior or tower room next time.
All in all a good experience. Slightly noisy A/C and hard pillows.

Great hotel. Really relaxing for a break as very central, close to train station and with the added benefit of a rooftop pool. Only downsides were the reception staff who's knowledge was not that great, but their English was good. Also watch out for the hotel tax!
