The rooms were big/spacious but i think they could do with updating, especially the bathrooms.

large rambling victorian hotel...slightly faded grandeur. The room was large and comfortable, only let down by the decidedly shabby bathroom...peach bath with cracked and grubby grouting round the taps and a chipped loo seat. Trouser press didn't work. The food at the function we attended was hot, plentiful and delicious. The small bar installed in our function room didn't have draught mixers, so shorts were a bit dear at £2.95 for a rum and another £1.50 for a small bottle of coke - cheaper to go to the main bar where they have it on draught, so we switched to beers and bottled drinks. Staff we spoke to while organising our function could not have been more helpful. Breakfast the following morning was very nice, nearly burnt my fingers on the plates at the self serve buffet as they were so hot! We also had lunch on arrival in the Conservatory bar - lovely hot beef baguettes! Overall a nice place to stay and very handy for Lord St shopping.

I took advantage of the hotel's Autumn Offer - for £35 I had a nice room and a hearty breakfast. The staff were helpful and friendly. It was in walking distance to the conference centre and the town. I'd definitely stay there again. I was only sad not to have had time to make use of the spa facilities.

Room dated and heating poor. Staff very friendly and breakfast ok. But a bargain price so how can I moan ?
