Paid the Lateroom rate of £140 (reduced from £190) and was pretty disappointed. The hotel looks great from the outside but the rooms were not up to scratch. A tired bathroom from the 70's/80's, no fridge and then small things that are just annoying like a bedside light which did not work and no biscuits or fresh milk.
Had a meal in the restaurant (3 courses £39 ahead). The restaurant itself was modish but not intimate with those tables for 2 where you are so far away from your companion that you have to shout. The food was pretty poor. Meat was overdone ie rare=medium/ well done and the vegetables were mushy. Puddings were bland. However, the service in the restaurant was very good, friendly but not intrusive. The wine did not arrive with the meal but was remedied with an immediate apology and a free bottle.
The hotel is geared for weddings rather than romantic get aways and even at the reduced rate is very overpriced.

Lovely walks within spectacular grounds. Accomodation and food of a very high standard, but tables disconcertingly close together in the dining room. Would certainly recommend this hotel for a relaxing break/special occasion.

Had a wonderful night at this hotel. Staff very helpful and friendly. Sitting areas very impressive especially the drawing room with its large open fire. Would highly recommend this hotel for a romantic break.
