The previous night to our stayu I rang (quite late, about 21:30) to confim everything was okay )the LateRooms confirmation letter was a little confusing...), and enquire what time our room would be available. A very pleasant girl told me that as our room was not being used the previous night we would be able to have it much earlier than the usual 15:00. When we arrived at aboput 13:00 the lady at reception told me we'd have to wait until 15:00 and that the room had been used..... Okay. I asked what Oakham was like... no idea, she was from Stamford! A pleasnat girl but could do with more local knowledge. The girl serving breakfast on the Monday, was lovely. Very courteous, helpful and served up good well presented food..
Our room was fine... although the carpet was not very clean, the shower slow and only terrestrial tv stations available... the weather while we were there was very cold and it wqs wonderful to come in at the end of each day toi a lovely warm room... the bathroom (shower only) was especially warm... much appreciated. The heating seemed to be on 24hrs a day... not that we're complaining, it was great!
We can recommend the Noel across the road - its the only place we could find to eat without jumping in the car. The owner and his staff made us feel extremely welcome and the food was beautiful... and though it seemed a tad expensive beforehand, was actually good value for money. The hotels loacation was a good spot for cycling around the resevoir. We'd also recommend a trip to the nearby Buterfly centre, Burghley House and the Finch pub on Hambleton.

Hotel well-situated and convenient for Rutland Water. Beautiful and spacious room, recently refurbished to a high standard and a substantial breakfast buffet (Full English or continental style). Very pleasant and helpful receptionist. The only real negative point was the lack of evening restaurant facilities on site, but the Noel Arms across the road was well worth a visit so not a major drawback. Excellent value for money. Would definitely stay here again and recommend to friends.

The location is stunning, the staff are extremely friendly, the room was clean, with a comfortable bed and nice pillows.
The room did need a bit of TLC to address some crackes and peeling paintwork, but this did not affect the overall experience.
The food across the road at the Noel Pub is excellent but a 3 course meal for 2 came in at around £55.
The breakfast at the hotel was good.
The only downside for me was the poor water pressure in the bathroom, meaning the shower was very slow.
Overall though a great place to stay, and top marks for customer service.
