Rothay Garden Hotel

Broadgate,Grasmere, Grasmere - The Lakes

Rothay Garden is no ordinary hotel. Situated on the edge of picturesque Grasmere village, and nestling in two acres of riverside gardens surrounded by majestic fells, Rothay Garden – the Lake District’s newest four-star hotel - is the perfect choice for a relaxing Lakeland break. Rothay Garden has recently benefited from a £2 million redevelopment programme. 25 beautiful bedrooms, five Loft Suites, an elegant candlelit conservatory restaurant overlooking the gardens, chic lounge bars and two-AA rosette awarded food all combine to ensure you have the short break or holiday that you deserve. And just outside the hotel, the renowned Lake District awaits you – Grasmere really is the “jewel of the Lakes” and is centrally situated for Ambleside, Windermere, Keswick and Kendal. With some of the best views in any hotel in the Lake District the luxurious Rooms, offer great ensuite facilities, ten-channel tv, welcome tray, hairdryer and complimentary toiletries and bathrobes. Many of the bedrooms are on the ground floor, one is fully accessible and DDA-compliant, and half of the rooms have superb six-foot wide King Size beds (with the remainder having luxurious five-foot Queen Size beds). Unlike a traditional hotel restaurant, the two-rosette Conservatory Restaurant at Rothay Garden is an attraction in its own right, with its contemporary furniture, clean elegant lines and great views overlooking the hotel's two acres of gardens. The hotel's kitchens are managed by Head Chef Andrew Burton, who has been at the hotel with Chris Carss for 17 years and is one of only 300 Masterchefs of Great Britain. When booking in the details of our stay were incorrect, I'm not sure if this was the fault of late rooms or the hotel, we were booked in with a minimum of fuss. When booking out I discovered that we had been overcharged for the room and charged for a meal we didn't have. When this was pointed out the error was rectified immediately so as I say not sure who was at fault. Hotel was spotless the staff were very welcoming and the food was great. Our room was slightly on the small side but the facilities were second to none, our view had the small river behind the hoel but I would recommend anyone staying should ask for the front of the hotel overlooking the garden and it gets all the sun.

we have no complaints about the hoel however they are under refurbishment at the moment which did create one or two problems;- the car park was rather small and we only just managed to park. Whilst we were there and we had to use a side door as the main front door was being rebuilt. It meant walking along a gravel path which became very waterlogged as there was heavy rain. This was not good. Perhaps they should have arranged to have some boards to walk across and make it easier for their guests.
