In its 60th anniversary year the world famous Sharrow Bay hotel and its Michelin star restaurant has a breathtaking setting on the shore of the beautiful Lake Ullswater in the Lake District. The internationally renowned kitchen, led by Colin Akrigg, uses the finest local ingredients to produce some of the best ‘British’ cuisine you are likely to find. The cellar has a growing international reputation for fine and rare wine picked from the very best vineyards in the world.

By car -From Junction 40 on the M6 motorway follow the A66 towards Keswick until reaching the roundabout signposted the A592 to Ullswater.

At the roundabout turn left onto the A592 sign posted to Ullswater and follow this road until you reach the lake. Turn left towards Pooley Bridge.

Drive through Pooley Bridge village and turn right at the mini roundabout. Right again at the next cross roads and follow the signs to Howtown.

Sharrow Bay is then 2 miles on your right.

Wonderful personal service in an elegant, rather fru-fru, country house. Food of the very highest standard. Eclectic wine list. The room was large and was provided with everything except, strangely, there was no dressing table and my wife had nowhere to make up. Expensive, but a great treat.

The only (very) slight disappointment was that the morning tea was stewed and not very hot. A small thing but In a hotel where everything was superb, this really stood out!
