The location of the Guest House was great: beside Bassenthwaite Lake and roughly half-way between Cockermouth and Keswick in Cumbria. The building had character, was tastefully decorated and had an adequately proportioned car park. A very good breakfast was included and breakfast was held in a very pleasantly decorated dining-room. On arrival, guests were welcomed in a very comfortable lounge with tea or coffee and cake. There was also information about local events and attractions in the hallway. The single room had a view of the lake and was comfortable, being a mini-double with most ammenities except an ensuite bathroom. (I believe that it may be only this room that is without an ensuite bathroom.) Nevertheless there was a private bathroom for this room just across the hallway and a vanity washbasin in the room itself. Also, because of the lack of ensuite facilities, the room was very good value. Ammenities in the room included private coffee and tea making facilities; a TV; a clock; a dressing table cum desk and chair; mirrors, cupboards and drawers; soap and towels of course; and small nice little touches like hand lotion, literature on the local area including sights, walks and restaurants and even a shoe cleaning kit. Check in was at 4 p.m. which was fine for me but might not suite all. Check out was early at 10 a.m. which again was fine for me but might not suite all. I was given a front door key as well as a room key which enabled me to come and go as I pleased. That extra hassle-free freedom was excellent. |
