When I checked in I was told that my original room had been given to someone else who had complained about the room i was getting! I was then told that as it was cold the receptionist had been up and down the stairs turning on the heating in the rooms and hoped that we wouldn't complain about that too (in fact our room was freezing). When I did try to telephone reception from my room it just rang and rang. I was running in the Great North Run so it was important that I was rested... however our room over looked reception where a wedding party decided to congregate to smoke and talk/shout at each other well into the early hours. Again I tried to phone reception but again no answer and as I was in my P.J.'s I didn't fancy a trip down in person. I can only imagine that my window was made of cotton as noise and cigarette smoke smell came into my room as if I was standing next to the person. At breakfast the food was edible but hardly exciting, and the cleaner who I had seen in reception was having to work in the breakfast room too as a lot of people who were going to the GNR were trying to eat and get away early. At check out the reception was abandoned so I had to just leave my key. Staff were friendly but not accommodating. I will not be staying here again, sadly on this occassion I needed the room. |
