The Cromwell Suite at Orton Hall was brilliant. Both our daughters and their partners had stayed there before on separate occasions and so we thought it was our turn! We were warmly welcomed by Linda when we went to get the key. The accomodation was excellent and even the weather was dry!
We enjoyed reading the other guests comments in the book and we have to agree about the oven!!! We'd been warned by our daughters and so didn't use it much. We can also recommend the George Pub in the village - great food & welcome.
We would like to stay there again in the future.

We booked the Cromwell Suite for a short mid-week break in October. I have to start by saying that unfortunately due to a last-minute problem with the heating system, we were unable to stay in that particular suite. However, the owner was particularly helpful in arranging for us to stay in one of the other suites in Orton Hall - the Duke of Clarendon. We really appreciated her putting herself out to help, as we were really looking forward to it. We had an absolutely fabulous time! The hall itself is amazing - old, quirky and full of character. The suite was really nice, plenty of space with pretty much everything you could need, and very clean. We think the lady who does the caretaking/cleaning does a really good job. We met a couple of the residents at the hall who were lovely, but apart from that we didn't really see anyone there which suited us as we really wanted to get away from it all. We went to the George a couple of evenings for dinner, primarily because it's so close and convenient (we recommend you take a torch if you walk there as part of the road is unlit). The food was middle of the range, but if you are looking for something a bit more special you may want to go a bit further afield. The Greyhound in Shap was really nice. We only really scratched the surface of the Lake District so will definitely be coming back and we both said we'd like to stay at Orton Hall again.

A good apartment, close to the M6. As others have stated, the only real problem is oven dial which have lost their markings!

A beautiful suite in a beautiful location. The rooms are lovely and the four poster bed is wonderfully decadent!
