A few hundred feet above one of the most beautiful lake in Britain beckons a small gem of a hotel. It's called The Samling. Set in it's won sixty seven acre estate, it's like no other place you've ever stayed. This is a hotel in the country and, emphatically, not a country house hotel, so there's none of that snooty nostalgic stuff. Instead, you'll discover deep comfort the fruits of a thoughtful kitchen and service so good you'll hardly notice it. Breakfast at The Samling is generally agreed is preferable in bed and a many splendoured thing it is. There is no other hotel like it.

Beautiful and unstuffy. Felt v comfortable here. Like being a guest at somebody's private home. Nothing was too much trouble, yet completely unobtrusive. Lovely comfy seating areas, small library, with gorgeous views and a tranquility about it. Lovely pictures adorning the walls and very welcoming fire. They really do look after you here and actually care. You can have exactly what you want to make your stay most enjoyable - they seem to have an uncanny knack of knowing exactly what you want! Just two negative comments - There was a very large stain on our bedroom carpet which we felt could have been cleaned(hence no.4 for cleanliness, rest of hotel spotless). The bed was amazingly comfortable though! Fabulous views and patio. We liked the way the rooms had kept their authenticity and character. Breakfast was perfect but afternoon tea was disappointing. We didn't receive our complimentary bottle of champagne, however i think we received our welcome drinks free and had a free glass of champagne each with strawberries, which seemed to make up for it! Wish we could have stayed 2 nights, but budget wouldn't stretch that far, can't wait to return.
