The Copthorne Tara Hotel boasts one of west London's most enviable locations. Situated in the very heart of Kensington, the hotel is just a few minutes’ walk from the tube station. Within easy reach of the shops and restaurants of Kensington High Street, Knightsbridge and Notting Hill, the hotel is also close to the beautiful tree lined lanes and avenues of Kensington Gardens and Hyde Park, the Royal Albert Hall, Earls Court and Olympia Exhibition Centres, the theatres of the West End and the world famous museums on the Cromwell Road. The 833 air-conditioned rooms offer clean lines, traditional styling, and crisp white linens. Club Rooms on the upper floors have city views and access to a private lounge. The Copthorne Tara has several dining options: The Brasserie offers a wide range of international dishes, served in a friendly relaxed atmosphere. Bugis Street specialises in Singaporean and Malaysian cuisine offering a tantalising selection of dishes by Chef Kok San Wong. Opening hours are from 12 noon until 10.30pm. CafeXpress offers 24 hour access to high speed internet stations and plasma screen viewing for topical News or sporting events. From 7.00am daily, a range of freshly made coffees and teas will be available, together with delicious hot and cold snacks. We also have a secure on site car park (£20.00 per 24 hours and hourly rates apply), spaces cannot be booked or guaranteed.

Rail: from Paddington catch the circle (yellow) or district (green) line towards Victoria, Wimbledon or Earls Court. The hotel is 2 tube stops from Paddington station, alight at High Street Kensington station. UNDERGROUND: High Street Kensington station, Circle & District Lines. HEATHROW By Heathrow Express to Paddington Station - see directions above. By Underground: Take the Piccadilly (blue) line to Earls Court and then change to the District Line (green) towards Edgware Road or High Street Kensington. Alight at High Street Kensington (one stop) GATWICK Gatwick Express: To Victoria Station, then change to the Underground and take either a District Line train to Edgware Road, or a Circle Line train from the same platform towards Paddington. Alight at High Street Kensington station. ROAD:Follow signs from M4, eastbound to Central London, M4 leads onto A4. Continue over the Hammersmith Flyover into Cromwell Road. Same old problem of being given a smoking room when I had specifically asked for a non smoking room - then being treated like I was the problem. Eventually I had to wait 3 hrs while they found a non smoking room. Rooms themselves are OK but the hotel needs to smarten up.

The staff were nice the location perfect but for the money the rooms are very shabby and in need of a makeover. The lobby, the bar and all public areas look new and shiny but they mask the fact that the rooms belong to the late 80's and burn stains on the bathroom fittings do not lend themselves to that 4* experience.

I had the impression of a very busy but efficiently run operation, ideal for a short stay in London. Just a couple of gripes in the bathroom: the lighting was a little dim and the air extraction system a bit weak.
