Directions to Craig Y Nos Castle
Assuming you are coming from London, Heathrow or anywhere in the South of the UK, take the M4 to Junction 45 which is the Swansea exit. Take the A4067 north towards Pontardawe. Continue up the A4067, bypassing Pontardawe, and keep following the brown tourist signs advertising the Dan Yr Ogof caves. The A4067 takes you past the nearby towns of Ystradgynlais and Abercrave and the road winds through the small village of Penycae immediately before you reach Craig Y Nos. The castle is a well signposted large building on your right. If you have come along the M4 from England, this route will take about 1 hour and twenty five minutes from the toll Bridge into Wales.

We were not informed that the buildng work was so intrusive; even when the hotel rang, they said that all was affected was that the restaurant wouldn't be open for a day. We had two days of very loud banging and noise (including a pneumatic drill constantly from 8.30 in the morning until we left at 11). The dust from it (although not visable) set off my asthma and i was unable to breathe through the night comfortably. We had also requested for a softer mattress inthe booking and frankly, we couldn't have had a harder one with coil springs that dug into our backs all night. When we tried to talk about our comments politely, we were treated very rudely by the girl on the desk who was very unsympathetic and said that we should have looked at the website more carefully that says work is in progress; we explained that that generally doesn't mean a pneumative drill under your room during your stay! She just said "work in progress means what it says, work in progress". We'll not be staying there again for sure. |

Really disappointed with customer service (had to pay extra money when arrived as apparently they have no £85 rooms!)although the room (Atrium) was really lovely. Hotel in middle of being renovated which is much needed as some parts are really, very tired and in desperate need of an update! I think they should have closed and re-opened when everything is finished. The water was also brown! I wouldn't go again and wouldn't recommend! |

The castle is beautiful and is set in lovely gardens. The room and bathroom had been refurbished to a high standard and were very clean. It's mainly used for weddings at the weekend so there's a lot of hustle and bustle which adds to the atmosphere. We played pool whilst it rained but they also have a lot of action DVDs you can watch in your room (or perhaps take your own as back up if these don't appeal!) The kitchens weren't yet fully up and running for guests but there's a great restaurant one mile south called the Pen Cae Inn which they'll happily book for you. It's a great base from which to see the Brecon Beacons by car or on foot and looks like it will only get better with time, especially when the spa opens. Highly recommended |
