Seabank Hotel

West Drive, Cardiff (porthcawl)

If Porthcawl , with its position midway between Swansea and Cardiff is the ideal spot from which to explore all that South Wales has to offer, then The Seabank Hotel is the perfect base for that exploration. Overlooking inviting beaches with calming sea views, The Seabank Hotel delivers all that you could wish for in a modern hotel, whilst retaining its sense of history and heritage. Built in the nineteenth century The Seabank Hotel commands the promenade with its almost ship-like exterior, much as it must have dominated the town at its original construction. Many changes have occurred since tutors boomed at the residential college-boys, yet still a distinctive character pervades the hotel, due as much to the attentive friendliness of the staff as the comfortable decor of the interior.

We booked this hotel as it was next to the Grand Pavilion where we were going to see a
show in the evening so the location was excellent. The decor was a bit dated but did not spoil the stay. We also had a seaview which was nice. The hotel was quiet, but then again it was midweek in November.

First impressions were that the hotel was in need of a facelift we asked for hot food when we arrived at 3pm but only cold food available until 6.30pm, breakfast good but service poor. The bar lacked any ambiance not many guests about and the piano was wildly out of tune souded like Les Dawson, the sherry was sour and from an almost empty bottle perhaps old
Room 64 the lavatory had a crudely glued crack on the side, one teacup was badly cracked and it looked like an old crack , the PVC windows were ill fitting and the wind howled through them, we asked but no key was found to open the windows, otherwise good airy large room and comfortable bed
Despite any moans the staff were unfailingly kind, polite and pleasant.

Location is excellent and the room we had a little viewing lounge un-suite and was just perfect. The food was good and decently priced. Now the bad bits. Advertised 24 hour snack service, though when we requested a simple beef sandwich came as a un edible disaster so it went back ( we may just have been a little unlucky with the porter staff on this occasion) Agreed we did come down for breakfast towards the end of service. The restaurant was full of tables uncleared of crockery and had to clear a table ourselves to be seated. (maybe a little more emphasis on presentation required) Setting aside these two little problems the hotel is excellent, would recommend and are looking forward to stopping again in October sometime.
