We had a super night at the hotel for my Husband's 30th Birthday. The hotel is magnificent beyond superlatives and driving up to the hotel is a moment of magic. Our room was very nice and upgraded from the double that we booked however stopped short of the magnificence I suspect other [more expensive] rooms offered. We had advised we were bringing our baby and the room was set with a change mat and travel cot which was thoughtful. On an unexpectedly warm weekend in September we had a wonderful afternoon in the outdoor spa pool and hot tubs. The service was warm, attentive and nothing was too much trouble including bringing my husband's birthday gift to the table with glasses of champagne. The hotel is very expensive. Most notably spa side sandwich was average and £17 [service not included...] Dinner in the Terrace restaurant was elegant however did not quite have the faultless wow that £200 should deliver. The Drawing Room and Waldos being used for private functions were slight irritations. Sunday breakfast was again an elegant affair and taking a walk through the estate was close to priceless. In summary the hotel creates the magic of a bygone era of country hotel weekends. The hotel and grounds are fabulous and upkeep clearly has a price which you pay for unblushingly with your stay. |
