Elegant, refined and above all, welcoming – the Hotel Carlton and Grand Canal has been run for 30 years by an experienced and diligent Venetian family. Looking out onto the Grand Canal – a romantic stretch of water lined with magnificent palaces and imposing buildings, you are within a unique setting. Boasting easy access to the famous Rialto Bridge and St. Mark’s Square not to mention numerous other tourist attractions and sites of interest. A stunning interior - pastel shades, Venetian stuccoes, glass wall lamps made on Murano, furnishings which, while being functional, recall the glorious Serenissima epoch: these are the elements of the new hall and bar, completely mirrored on marvellous Istria stone. The recently restored, characteristic internal patio onto which some of the rooms look out and where guests can enjoy breakfast or relax, using it as a peaceful open-air lounge, has a notable impact on guests. The hotel also features an elegant, open-air bar. Our 150 rooms were completely renovated in 2001 in eighteenth-century Venetian style, thus providing you with a decor typical to the most prestigious and noble palaces of Venice – and all with the added advantage of the most up-to-date facilities.

Whether you come to Venice by car, train or air, the Hotel Carlton and Grand Canal is close to your arrival point because it is located in a strategic position as regards parking at Tronchetto and Piazzale Roma, Santa Lucia station and the public transport and water taxi landings. Do not hesitate to use our private landing, conveniently located in front of the hotel entrance on the Grand Canal. By plane From "Marco Polo" Venice airport there are two ways of reaching the hotel: - by private water taxi, you will reach the hotel directly - by taking the "Venezia Air Terminal" direct bus service, you will reach Piazzale Roma in twenty minutes. From there, the hotel can be easily reached on foot in just 3 minutes by following the fondamenta which runs along the side of the Grand Canal. By train Leave the station and you will see the hotel immediately overlooking the Grand Canal: cross the Scalzi Bridge and you will reach the hotel in just 3 minutes. By car If you come to Venice by car, you can park in one of the numerous car parks in Piazzale Roma, the car terminal, from where the hotel can be easily reached on foot by following the fondamenta which runs alongside the Grand Canal.

    Please read to the end. This hotel is in a great spot and the staff were friendly and spoke english. However its being renovated and there are builders all over the place. No wonder we had a great front room with a view of the canal! The scaffolding was all over the front of the building (hardly recognisable) as it was being replastered so the workman was right there when I opened the window. I made sure to lock the shutters and the windows for security. We werent in our room much in the daytime and the workers were gone by the time we were back in the late afternoon so not really a drama. The room is beautifully furnished in venetian style. This is padded fabric walls, handpainted shabby chic type bed and cupboards and Murano glass chandalier. Ensuite is small but modern and all scrupulously clean. No mould andwhere and no smells. Wonderfully thick white towels and perfectly white sheets changed everyday (I know because I dropped a tiny spec of chocolate on my side and it was gone!) It is a very short stroll (5mins) to the bus stops and across the canal from the train station. Bus stop across the canal to take us anywhere up the Grand canal with our 3 day ticket. The hotel breakfasts were good and the coffee keeps on coming -waitstaff here where really nice. I had meusli, toast and yogurt and my husband had scrambled eggs and bacon. It was good and plenty of it. Cafes, Bars and restaurants all around here too. Probably a bit quieter than the other end of the canal near the Basilica with the crowds.
    Yes I would stay here again as its only going to look even better with the renovations done. I guess they have to do them in the quiet season. In fact i am glad we saw Venice in February - no crowds and the fog just gave it a peaceful atmosphere - my photos look great.
