Storrs Hall Hotel

Storrs Park,Bowness-On-Windermere, Windermere

Amongst all the Hotels in the Lake District, Storrs Hall is unquestionably one of the most spectacular. It is surrounded by the natural beauty of the Lake District. The Hotel, a grade ll Georgian Mansion, offers a most idyllic setting for people who enjoy life's luxuries. Storrs Hall, with its National Trust-owned folly the "Temple", has for years been a landmark to sigh over. Sitting in an unrivalled position, this lakeland Hotel enjoys views of Lake Windermere that seem endless. The sumptuous interiors are decorated in the old English style creating an air of established comfort, elegant but informal, warm and welcoming. At every turn, breathtaking views of lake and fell can be glimpsed through great windows and framed and reflected in ornate mirrors. Bedrooms are equally luxurious with huge beds and beautiful bathrooms with every modern comfort. In consideration of our many guests who join us to escape family and business pressures, we are unable to welcome children under the age of twelve years.

We choose the hotel for our wedding anniversary. The hotel is some way out of town so once you are there you are a little tied if you do not want to drive. That said, it is in a beautiful setting overlooking the lake. On arrival we were lucky enough to get a free room upgrade to a lakeview suite. The room was beautiful, very well apointed, very large with a beautiful view of the lake. It had a separate dressing area with a large bathroom with a double ended bath and was very clean. We decided to dine in the hotel's restaurant at night. The cost was £39.95 for 5 courses. We chose to have our canapies in the bar and even saw a cast member from Coronation Street! The meal was very much haute cusine and therefore the portions were not really enough for my husband. There was a good choice of wine and champagnes. We were seated at a table overlooking the lake which was lovely. The restaurant was not very busy and we were hurried out so they could lay the tables for breakfast at 10.30 before we had received our coffees. The breakfast was lovely but the service was very slow it took about an hour for our grilled breakfast to arrive. We found the staff verall to be quite stuffy and you did get a feeling you were being a nuisance if you asked them anything but this said it did not effect our stay. I would definately go again and recommend it to my friends.

A beautifully situated hotel on Lake Windermere. We would have loved to sit on the seat by the lake but unfortunately it rained all the time. I would imagine there is not a better spot in England than this on a lovely sunny day.

We have stayed on other occasions and have always enjoyed this little gem. Well worth a stay for the view of the lake.
