Strange place. One can see that they are trying to improve the hotel, it's reasonably clean, the room was fine (but I get the impression that there are different standards elsewhere - or least different door key systems. But there is this air of depression about the building, it does not (to me) feel terribly welcoming - although the staff are.
The hotel is on many floors and one can get temporarily lost. I would have liked better fire exit signage. There was no obviously open bar that I could find.
Really quite limited menu at the restaurant. Unusually, I did not find anything (simple) there that I wanted to eat, although from what I could see with other diners, it looked reasonable. The room service menu would have been better, but I was not hungry enough to pay the extra £2.50. I didn't feel sufficiently motivated to have the breakfast (an extra £8).
Good, free, internet access - but you have to ask for the password.
Finally - the price. Anywhere else in the UK I would have expected to pay £50-70 for a similar room in a hotel with similar facilities. I was informed by my taxi driver that "decent" hotels in Aberdeen cost upwards of £200/night. His opinion of this hotel was "it's better than it was".

on arivall missed the car park as there were no signs pointing it out, but it is a large open air car park area with a security barrier, at reception i was greeted by foreign worker who's english wasn't the best. eventually got checked.
The elevator was a scary experience, wondered at one point if it was going to make it, lots of judders, creaking and strange unhealthy noises. arrived at floor and there was no signs directing to rooms, and the doors had no signs? all quite strange, eventually found my room after trying my key card in a few doors. the room was large but seemed to by half way through a refurb, the furnishings and bathroom suite looked new, but the wallpaper was hanging from the walls, the ceiling looked stained and dirty and the bathroom ceiling wad again stains and a hole in it.
the staff in the bar werent affiliated with the term "service with a smile" and i even felt like it was a chore for them to serve me, and the drinks were over priced.
a plesent evening but was awoken very early by the cleaners around 0730 - 0800 even though check out isn't until 1100.
the hotel is in a good location though, just across from the train station. a few hundred yards from the dock, and the same from union street.

Refurbishment in progress but a long way to go.
Shower temperature varied suddenly and considerably. Could be dangerous.
Only had Continental breakfast so can't comment on food.

An incredible room. Large bed, wood panelling, sofa, mini-bar/fridge, etc.Good value for money. Did not eat at the hotel so could not comment on the quality of the food.
