Gwenllian Court Hotel

Mynyddygarreg, Kidwelly (Nr Carmarthen/Llanelli)

The Gwenllian Court was built in the 19th century as a gentleman's country residence, for the owner of Kidwelly Tinplate Works. These Works have recently been restored and are now a fascinating Industrial Museum located close to the hotel. In its original guise as a Victorian country mansion it was situated in fine grounds and orchards which became a favourite haunt of local Victorian society and played host to many elegant occasions. The hotels present title reflects its roots in local history by taking its name from Princess Gwenllian, a local heroine, whose bravery has passed into Welsh legend. Today the hotel, although having undergone extensive changes, still retains an inimitable style that can only come from such a distinct heritage. The bedrooms are all individual in their decoration, which have been chosen to enhance the unique atmosphere of this hotel. All rooms have private facilities and are equipped with television and tea and coffee making facilities. The individuality of our rooms allows us to offer two higher grades of accommodation above our standard level. Both our superior and luxury grades of room offer a unique style of accommodation to those who really want to make the most of their stay. With the fine grounds still very much a part of the Gwenllian Court, they offer a peaceful haven to escape to when you want to wind down at the end of a busy day.

Room warm and cosy with nice rustic furniture and pleasant outlook, good tea and coffee facilities. Main drawback was there was a bright light shining directly outside the window which made it difficult to sleep (was turned off around 5am), and blankets were a little restrictive and uncomfortable, a duvet would be better. Bathroom was a little shabby, grouting needed looking at and the decor was dull but it was very clean and plenty of piping hot water with nice quality complimentary toiletries. Staff were friendly and helpful and I didn't feel uncomfortable travelling alone.
