Millennium Baileys

Gloucester Road, London

A stay with us is like having your very own magnificent town house, breaking down the formality of a traditional hotel in an atmosphere that is as refreshing as it is relaxing. Our doors first opened in 1876 as one of the very first purpose built hotels in London and we remained open through the turn of the century, changes in ownership and even two world wars. One distinctive mark remains ingrained: character. From the moment you enter our stately hall, the authentic Victorian decor envelops you. Warm muted tones combine with glorious dark woods, blending perfectly to create a truly relaxing and enchanting ambience from the elegance of the sculptured wrought iron on the grand staircase through to the detailed craftsmanship of the wooden flooring and cornices. Genuine quality, personality and character are features that cannot be created, merely attained through respect and values. Like our excellent, traditional service, it gets better with time. Exceptional cuisine and a welcoming atmosphere ensure our restaurant achieves this with considerable ease. Whilst most hotel bedrooms are simply a place to sleep, ours are much more. Peaceful and quiet, a retreat from the city bustle, providing the ideal place to muse over your day, at the end of which, you can sleep comfortably in the knowledge that everything has been taken care of. A magnificently restored town house hotel in the heart of Kensington, close to Hyde Park, Kensington Palace and Gardens. Near London’s finest museums- the Natural History Museum, Science Museum and the Victoria and Albert Museum.

Shame the bar closed before eleven pm. I usually expect a bar to stay open as long as customers require it.

Have stayed at the Baileys before and it really is a fantastic hotel. Unlike so many hotels. the Baileys has charm! The drinks and room service are pricey, but no more than other London hotels. Excellent location too.

We were dissapointed to have been upgraded to a room that was designated as a smoking room - which smelled like an ashtray.
We were pleased to be given another room although it was inconvenient to move.

Booked a single room so was ready for a lack of space. Got this in first room allocated but not too fussed. Was bothered by the location opposite lifts which resulted in a very noisey first night as the lift mechanism was loud and the slightly drunk guests more so.
Room I was moved to was more spacious and quiet. Unfortunately it came with a bed that had a mattress that was visibly dipping in the middle. It gave no support whtsoever and the least uncomfortable position I could find was to try to lie along the edge. Given that the room rate was £125 a night and the essential service offer was one of providing a place to sleep, the sheer laziness of the hotel management to fail to replace such an obviously worn out mattress let me infuriated.
It also lead me to focus on what I would otherwise have considered to be trivial points but I would now consider as further examples of penny pinching: the poor standard of in-depth cleaning that had left a cigarette end by the window, the lack of any choice beyond 2 basic, cheap teabags/coffe sachets, and the slightly worn towells.
If they had to compete hard for customers they's be in trouble. As it is, with London being so busy, they will probably continue to get away with relying on the look of the building and the location.

Comfortable four star hotel in good location for Kings Road & Knightsbridge. Our room was across the road from the tube station but double glazing seems to block any noise from trains.
