The White Swan Hotel

Rother Street,Stratford-Upon-Avon,Warwickshire, Stratford upon Avon

This quintessential English Hotel is situated in the very heart of Shakespeare's birthplace, the historic town of Stratford-upon-Avon. Although the facilities and standard of comfort at The White Swan have kept pace with the passage of the time, much of the original charm and atmosphere remain as a legacy of its long and interesting history. Nowhere is this more evident than in the Oak Room Restaurant, a unique wood panelled room adjoining the cosy bar. Low beams, a large open fire, antique furniture and its own captivating mural create an environment harking back to a bygone age.
The White Swan is over five hundred years old and is undoubtedly the oldest building in Stratford, which is today used as an inn. Before becoming an inn the hotel was a bakery where, legend has it, Shakespeare himself bought his daily loaf of bread! With its striking half-timbered Tudor frontage and within easy reach of motorway networks, Birmingham International Airport and Stratford train station, The White Swan is a perfect venue for business or pleasure.
Our 41 bedrooms accommodate all guests whether travelling alone on business, as a group, a couple or as a family. All bedrooms are ensuite and in keeping with the traditional feel of the building with a mix of both antique and practical furnishings. Many of the bedrooms feature wooden beams or views over the picturesque town. You will find all personal amenities including refreshment tray, hairdryer, personal toiletries as well as 24 Hour Room Service and internet connection.
The White Swan offers two rooms for an array of different events from exhibitions, private functions and training sessions to a simple boardroom meeting. The Heritage Room provides a great meeting place for businesses near and far for up to 25 delegates, complete with stationery and equipment if required. The Shakespeare is a beautiful, light and airy room which can accommodate up to 80 guests and is a great setting to celebrate a special occasion or wedding with family and friends.
The hotel is located close to the Birmingham International Airport and Stratford train station. White Swan hotel in Stratford is easily accessible from the major motorway networks.

Breakfast didn't start until 7.30, which seemed quite late for a weekday - and as I had to catch the 7.35 train meant I had to leave without breakfast - only negative comment though.

The lady at the desk when we arrived was very helpful and let us put our cases somewhere safe as our room wasn't ready. Parking is £5 extra and is 2 min walk away from hotel. Room was nice enough, but light fittings, etc, could have done with a dust. Also there was only one bedside lamp. Bathroom was nice and clean and had been redecorated fairly recently. The hotel is right by a taxi rank and bank "hole-in-the-wall" so was quite noisy into the early hours (bring your ear-plugs!). Breakfast was included with the price of the room and was generous.

hotel very easy to find, excellent location to walk everywhere in Stratford. Only had breakfasts but these were very good, both in quality and quantity.
Ideal accom for just the two of us, clean tidy but our room in need of some redecoration. Only to be expected in such an old hotel

Car park is not next to the hotel - but this is a good place to stay in Stratford

The cleanliness of the Hotel was well below standard. The room we was designated to stay in was very small and had mildew and paint peeling off in the bathroom and smelt very fusty. I complained about the room and asked to change, which the receptionist was happy to do. We looked at 3 more rooms, the best of the bunch which we stayed in was a larger room with a better quality all round but was still unclean, with the net curtains being dirty, shower curtain having orange stain all on the bottom, the toilet was dirty and the bathroom floor was stained around the toilet and had not been cleaned. Apparantly the Hotel is due for refurbishment over the winter, if that is true it is badly needed as the carpets, wallpaper and scurting baords are all marked and worn.
