Royal Crescent - Relais & Chateaux

16 Royal Crescent, Bath

The Georgian City of Bath is of breathtaking beauty with a romantic history and this special hotel reflects that perfectly. Impeccable style and attention to detail epitomes the kind of experience enjoyed by our guests.Set within the gardens, the unique ambience of The Bath House is designed for relaxation and pleasure and offers a combination of treatments and therapies. Other leisure pursuits include our own hot air Balloon, and the beautiful 1920 river launch, the Lady Sophina.
Restaurants in Bath don’t come any finer than The Dower House where Head Chefs, Mark Brega and Gordon Jones, and their brigade work closely to develop the synthesis of innovative cuisine within this rich architectural setting, striving to create the very best gourmet cuisine for a contemporary British menu that draws on influences from both the Mediterranean and the Far East.
The Dower House is the Royal Crescent's award-winning restaurant and one of the finest restaurants in Bath, if not the finest, open to both house guests and non-residents.
The menu at The Dower House changes with the seasons to match the climate and to make best use of the very finest fresh ingredients. The cellar, expertly managed by sommelier Jean Marc Leitao, complements the menus and provides ample choice for both the casual diner and the true connoisseur of fine wines. Non residents are welcome for lunch or dinner. However, booking is essential.

Following the usual route signs into Bath from the M4 may cause you delays as the traffic can be heavy and the one-way system sometimes frustrating. We have therefore put together a special route (usually used by Bathonians) from the M4 to The Royal Crescent, which should be trouble-free and, all things considered, should bring you safely to our doors from the M4 in about 20 minutes. From Junction 18 follow the A46 towards Bath for approximately 2.5 miles. You will pass The Crown Inn on your left and then the beautiful Dyrham Park and the Tollgate Teashop on your right.Immediately after The Tollgate Teashop, take a right turn (there are no directional signs). Continue along the twisty road for approximately 1.5 miles until you arrive at a T-junction.At the T-junction turn right (signposted Bristol A420), then immediately left to Hamswell. Follow the twisty road past Toghill Farm on your right, down the hill and up another hill to a T-junction (approx. 1.5 miles). At the T-junction turn left up the hill, following the signs to ?Lansdown and Bath?.Continue along this road for the next couple of miles you will drive along passing Lansdown Golf Club and Bath Racecourse on the right. Continue past The Blathwayt Arms pub on the right and then on to the city outskirts. As you enter the city you will pass the Hare and Hounds pub on the left. The road continues downhill until you reach another T-junction with a church to the left.Turn right at the T-junction and then drive down the hill, passing The Farmhouse Inn on the left and then two pubs on the right -The Belvedere on the corner of Morford Street and The Beehive near the corner of Julian Road. Continue past Julian Road on your right.Take the right turn into Bennett Street (street name carved into the stone at first floor level). Pass Russell Street and Circus Mews on your right.Drive into The Circus (Georgian houses built in a circle). Take the second exit out of The Circus into Brock Street.Drive straight onto the cobbled road of the Royal Crescent at the end of Brock Street, by the telephone box. Drive towards the centre of the Crescent. The hotel is Number 16, adjacent to the large magnolia tree. Please park your car at the front of the hotel and our Concierge will valet park it for you.Have a safe and enjoyable journey

The Royal Crescent Hotel is stunning! You drive onto the crescent and the view of the awe inspiring architecture is enough to make you say "wow". We were greeted and shown into the hotel, the open fire was burning and was extremely inviting. Our luggage was brought in and the car taken by the valet. We were shown around the hotel and the spa, the staff throughout our stay couldn't have been more helpful, they really treated you like you were special.
The room was spacious and very clean and tidy as was the bathroom. It was like stepping into a Jane Austin novel so please do not expect modern and shiny, the room was very much classic and period. For those who have complained about the size of the TV all i can say is that you need to get out more, you do not go to a place like to bath or to a hotel like the Crescent to watch Match Of The Day.
During in our one night stay we used the pool and spa facilities twice and again were very impressed, it really was so relaxing.
On our second day we started with breakfast which was great and was so lovely eating in the Dower House, a magificent start to the day. We were able to check out and leave our luggage and car at the Hotel whilst we went out for the day. On our return our car was brought round and our luggage taken out.
Our stay in the Crescent was a real treat, we couldn't falt the staff, they really treat you like it is a special occasion as the vast majority of people will not get chance to stay in such a place very often. The hotel itself is a fantastic example of english architecture and we felt privileged to have experienced it.

We were very dissapointed about the room and felt a bit like staying in Fawlty Towers. A lot of pomp and no quality behind it. We stayed in a room were there was a problem with the heating, so we got a little heater with one leg brought up into our room. However the personel forgot to lock our room. The wallpaper was damp in several places. The carpet had staines. The antiquated boiler system woke us up in the morning. The hairdryer was not working. The room felt old and had a tiny television. We complained to the Service Manager, who gave us £80 off the "normal" rate of £280. Which we feel is a still a rip-off, compared the kind of hotels we stayed in. We were really looking forward to a nice weekend break and left totally dissapointed. Certainly will not stay there again.

Nice hotel to say at as long as you do not eat there. The cost of food and beverages are far to high and I would suggest that there are many local restaurants with more choice and far better value. However, the spa is very good and for some odd reason not that expensive.

The hotel setting and grounds were fabulous. The staff were very courteous and helpful and we couldnt fault the level of service received. The first room we were booked into however was situated right about the bar and restaurant and the air condiitioning wasnt working so we asked to be moved (the noisy portable air-con unit wasnt particularly relaxing). We were moved almost instantly but the second room, in an older (gorgeous) part of the hotel smelt of damp and water stains (old) were on the ceiling. Not facing moving again (for a two night stay) we stayed but but were disappointed with the quality of both bedrooms.
The rooms (that we saw) did not live up to the standards of the rest of the hotel (bathrooms were lovely and modern though).

Hotel is in a fabulous location. Quite amazed though as despite the high price for the room the TV was very small (i believe it was a 14inch screen) and there was no minibar in the room. Otherwise very nice room with gret views onto the communal gardens.
