I liked this hotel very much. Our room was very comfortable and the hotel itself is stunning. The breakfast was top notch with a great selection. I didn't have time to use the spa or pool so can't comment on that. Only slight complaint was that the air-con/heating in our room was quite noisy. I would definitely stay here again though and indeed am hoping to return next year. |

Basically, it's a medieval hall, extensively rebuilt in the late Victorian gothic style with a large modern extension. My room in the modern extension was very well decorated, but unusually for a 4* hotel, had no mini-bar and only just enough hangers for one person. It was also freezing cold and the heating kept cutting out. Upon investigation I deduced that this was caused by the heating sensor being located in the return air duct rather than the wall controller, so the warm air was stratifying and recirculating without warming the room - a very fundamental design flaw! I solved the problem by turning the thermostat up to 27c and the fan speed to max, but in this mode it is much to noisy to sleep so you have to turn the heating off! With the curtains closed this didn't matter in November but I would not like to repeat the experiment in January! |
