The Forest and Vale offers a relaxing retreat from todays hectic schedules, with the emphasis firmly on ensuring that all guests receive the warmest welcome possible.
Choose from traditional bedrooms in the main house or contemporary rooms int he garden wing, all with the touches of luxury and attention to detail one would expect.
All rooms have high speed internet access and satellite tv.
Guests have a choice where to dine, either in the relaxed lounge bar or in the more formal restaurant. Our chef uses as many locally produced ingredients as possible and this is one of the main reasons behind our reputation for providing an excellent balance between imaginative and traditional cuisine. The menu is complimented by an extensive wine list.

the first night was fine with no problems but the second night there was a disco that started at 11pm and went on until 12 30am. we were not told about this and as our room was in very close proximity to the function it was extremely noisy. We arrived back at our room after being out all day and the window had been left open by the cleaners and as we were on a ground floor room with a public footpath beside the window we were not very happy. The staff member i spoke to with my concerns regarding this matter was very apologetic and gave us a complimentary glass of wine as way of an apology.

excellent stay - rooms and staff high standards !
only criticisms - english breakfast small portions for price
also we booked through late rooms and presumed because our credit card details taken at time of booking that we had pre paid for our stay - could have been embarrasing - not made clear on web site

Portions for breakfast were meagre to say the least. For £11 I would have expected freah fruit, not tinned grapefruit. The quality of the cooked breakfast was good but the portion was meagre. 'Mushrooms' on the menu turned out to be 1 mushroom.

It would help if we knew, when booking, the various grades of room available. We had an executive room, which was a bit costly, and had no option of alternative rooms.

hotel wasn very simple to get to and ideal for the town centre and castle and only a short walk to the steam railway station.
the food was excelent and hot.
