The Manor House Hotel and Golf Club

Castle Combe, Castle Combe (Nr Bath)

Its decadent, it’s cosseting, it doesn’t get much grander than The Manor House Hotel at Castle Combe, a country house with a difference. Smothered in 365 acres of parkland, a Peter Alliss designed golf course, Italian gardens and lawns sweeping down to the river Bybrook make the Manor a haven of peace and calm. Steeped in dramatic history and totally hospitable, the charming 14th century Manor House Hotel and Mews Cottages combine 21st century comforts, fine food, a battalion of friendly staff and unique touches that turn a simple break into a serious treat. A stylish maze of quirky hidey holes and spacious rooms some with impressive open fires, are fabulous to enjoy afternoon tea, light snacks or simply some peace and quiet.
Pretty terraces and 365 acres of stunning gardens and woodland, add to the choice of intimate space to create your own occasion, you can really Lord it at this Manor.
We have some stunning rooms and extravagant bathrooms that will certainly impress! What are you waiting for? We are ready to welcome you with open arms so pack your overnight bag and jump in the car.
The Bybrook Restaurant
People are talking, there is an excitable buzz and this is before a menu has been studied or a linen napkin unfolded, The Bybrook Restaurant's ears are burning!
The gossip is not all about our new arrival, Chef Davies, it's the whole deal; a superior setting, a wonderful experience and more people discovering it.
Named after the river crossing the estate, Bybrook is an elegant restaurant affording some of the finest views across stunning gardens and woodland. Befitting the gorgeous Manor, the restaurant maintains plenty of grand original features including occasional stained glass windows and carved stone work.
A superb and varied al-a-carte menu and guest gourmet suppers make it the perfect venue for lunch or dinner

The food was amongst the best dining experiences that we have had. The wine choosen for each course complimented each dish perfectly. If Richard does not get a Michelin Star there is NO justice.

This was the 2nd time we had stayed at the Manor House. Whilst overall we enjoyed our stay I was dissapointed in a number of things from our last stay a year ago.
This time we couldn't get a room in the main house and I booked a Junior Suite (Longleaze) in one of the cottages. This turned out to have an excellent bathrrom but the room itself was certainly not a suite, just a normal sized Hotel room. Amazingly, the room didn't have a mini bar, the only room refreshements being Tea & Coffe. If I wanted biscuits with my Tea I would have to call room service!
The main problem with our room was the intrusive noise from the room upstairs, you could hear every word of conversation from our "neighbours" and becuase there was a wedding at the hotel, this went on until the early hours. Then in the morning we were woken up at 6am by vehicles driivng past the cottage which has it's bedroom right by the road and being a very old building it has no double glazing.
So we were left feeling very tired instead of nicely rested which is not what you want for your wedding anniversary!
The last time we stayed here we both agreed we had the best meal of our lives in the dining room. Sadly the same could not be said this time, despite the chef recently being awarded a michelin star. The food was still excellent but nothing that justified the almost doubling in price from the last time we stayed. Our meal cost was nearly £200 for two when last year it was just over £100, I think the michelin star has come at a price to the consumer. In addition, the portions were so small I had to eat provisions from the days shopping in nearby Bath when I returned to our room. I actually cancelled my meal reservation for the second night so that tells it's own tale. However, the attending staff were all exceptional.
The positives were the staff who were helpful, polite and attentitive to the right level and of course the beautiful Manor House and surrounding gardens and village.
In short, if we do come back again, and it's by no means certain, it will be during the week so as to avoid weddings and only if we stay in the main house.
