We had a lovely stay - our only complaint was that the outdoor pool was closed and the indoor pool was dark, dingy and didn't look very clean. We also couldn't use the sauna because the shower tray was badly broken, though the receptionist said that she would make sure it was fixed after the weekend. However, the staff were lovely, we liked the room and the breakfast was perfect - apart from the lack of spa facilities it was a great place to stay.

This hotel is in a great position for exploring the surrounding area, we were exploring Chatsworth, Bolsover and Hardwick hall so it was quite central and we have stayed here before. The hotel is quite picturesque but the rooms are a bit small. Beds were fresh and clean and so was the bathroom but my mother in law pointed out the dust under all the furniture. Drinks were expensive and the food was tasty but portions were smaller than the price would suggest. Veg was extra! The staff were freindly but mostly from abroad so there was a bit of a language problem which unfortunately seems to be the norm these days.

Pools not heated (or if they were they were still very cold). The food was good but tiny portions. Three slivers of lamb on a tiny mound of potato. I heard another party at breakfast comparing the hotel to Fawlty Towers and we agree. The staff were well intentioned but not trained to any degree. We had breakfast surrounded by breaking glass and falling cutlery. I asked for the Smoked Haddock and Eggs to be told It already came with eggs. It actually came with egg. Our room had one chair. It was not big time.

I felt that although the food in the restaurant was okay, it was rather overpriced for what you received. The hotel needs some serious TLC, the room was adequate but the bathroom was decidedly grubby with something up the wall.
